Not Enough to do at the Animal Ambulance
I expressed in my last post I’m not doing enough practical work with the animal ambulance. I love being with the animals and bringing them to help and / or safety, but there’s also a lot of waiting around for a rescue call, or with the transportation side of things. And surprisingly, it’s difficult to hold of a shift!
To be clear, I’m not bored with the animal ambulance – I still love it! I just wish I had the chance to do more, and do more when I’m there.

It’s a different field, but I’ve joined the animal ambulance magazine team. (Should be obvious – you know I like writing!;) ) Donors to the animal ambulance receive the magazines for free, but we also give them out for free to finders, and leave them in places like vets so people can pick them up. Distribution means people become more familiar with what we do – and hopefully think of calling us when they come across a sick or wounded animal.
I’ll be writing 4 articles for our next issue, due to be published in November. (Actually it’s 3 articles and running a photo competition.) One of those articles is about how the animal ambulance works with the local rescue centre, and how the rescue centre helps animals when we (and others) bring animals to them.
I thought it would be nice to interview someone there and get an inside look, but the plan didn’t work out. These guys are extremely busy (they help around 10,000 animals every year – that’s about 30 a day!) so I turned online and pulled some information from videos and their website – which is when I saw a vacancy for a volunteer there as an animal caregiver!
The ‘job’ description sounds like it’s hands-on work helping the animals who are there, so I applied! The initial meeting went well and I’ve been offered the position! So hopefully each week I’ll be able to manage both some animal rescue work and care for some animals too! 🙂
