Timed Writing Challenges
My writing ideas come quickly. But whether it’s a theme, a story line, a twist or something funny, I need to jot it down before the vapour of an idea dissipates back into the ether.
And often, these ideas grow – they grow as I think about them, they grow as I write and they grow as I edit. And they still grow when I read…so reading turns back into editing. If the growth rate of an idea is faster than my writing then I’m overwhelmed and I stall. It’s the opposite of writer’s block.
Writing within an hour on a specified theme or subject takes stalling out of the equation. Limits rein in the creativity and I might not write at my best, but at least I’m writing something, and something gets finished!
